Sweet Success: Highlights from the 2023 Sweets and Snacks Expo
The 26th Sweets and Snack Expo took place on May 22-25 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois, creating a confectionery and snack extravaganza that attracted industry professionals and candy enthusiasts worldwide.
The BBI team made a significant impact at the show, with a strong presence of over 45 of our associates attending the event representing multiple channels of trade, clients, and manufacturers. The diverse group of seasoned associates, including BBI's CEO Robert Taylor and President Pat Grant, effectively showcased their collective knowledge, experience, and unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional client results.
Stacey Rutherford, BBI's Vice President of Family Dollar from the Value channel, received the prestigious 2023 Atkinson Lone Star Award at the event. Stacey's exceptional achievements, dedication, and visionary leadership set her apart as an outstanding industry individual and earned her this coveted recognition.
The show highlighted several key snacking trends that delighted attendees. These included brand collaborations, flavor mashups that catered to various taste preferences, social media-friendly interactive treats that encouraged playful engagement, and a focus on offering diverse options through various package sizes and product types.
The 2023 expo marked the final year at McCormick Place in Chicago before transitioning to new host cities. Starting in 2024, the Sweets & Snacks Expo will adopt a two-city rotation, spending two years in Indianapolis and one year in Las Vegas until 2032.
Additionally, the NCA unveiled a new branding, "Big & Bold," inspired by the unique experiences associated with candy and snacks. This rebranding coincides with the show's transition to the two-city rotation and adds an exciting dimension to future editions.
